Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, Martin Luther King, Jr. Career Center (KCC) will rebrand into Martin Luther King, Jr. Technical High School (King Tech) by adding 200 full-time students. For the first time in our 44-year history, we will become a fully accredited high school and graduate many of our students from King Tech.  Come and be a part of a new way to design your education.

KCC to add a full-time school for 200 students in 2018-19

You can be among the first group of students to design your own Personalized Learning Plan that will include both technical training and core academics.  You can become a member of the first ever KCC graduating class!  Check back for more information, frequently asked questions, and a schedule of informational nights.


What is King Tech High School?
King Tech is a full-time school for ASD juniors and seniors that combines career technical education with regular core classes in a design-your-own-education format.

How do I design my own education?
You and your parents/guardians/mentors create a Personal Learning Plan designed specifically for you, to include high school graduation and to prepare you for college, trade school, apprenticeship, or to start on a career.

Can anyone go?
You are qualified if you are an incoming junior or senior, have submitted an ASD lottery and a King Tech application to be a full-time student, and meet the requirements.

How do I apply?

Applications will be accepted online beginning January 23, 2018 at Applications are due by March 22, 2018. The lottery will be held March 23, 2018

What if I don’t get in, or if I want to stay at my current school, can I still go for 1⁄2 day?

What about my core classes?
You’ll find out about many options to meet your core requirements at King Tech.

Will I graduate from King Tech? Absolutely!

What about transportation?
Transportation is provided from the big 8 home high schools.

What if I’m planning to go to college?
You’ll have a competitive edge due to the skill sets you’ll obtain at King Tech.

What if I’m not planning to go to college?
You’ll be ready to launch into the plan you’ve designed for life after high school.

How do I learn more?
Information nights are being held regularly.
