Advertising, Art & Design is designed for the student interested in acquiring entry-level skills in the commercial art field. In the first semester, students are introduced to typography, advertising approaches, color and design theory, illustration, magazine and packaging layout and design, marketing, newspaper layout, symbols and logo design. Students are also assigned computer production jobs to complete within the working parameters of time and standards of quality. In the second semester, students receive an in-depth study of practices common to a fine art and an advertising design studio. Students develop advanced layout and computer graphic skills using Adobe InDesign, iMovie, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator programs. All students will complete a portfolio of assigned projects which demonstrate a mastery of basic entry skills in one of the following areas: game design, illustration, advertising, marketing, computer graphics and desktop publishing, architectural design, and industrial design using 2D and 3D software. Professionalism is emphasized every day.

Charlie Lochner - Instructor

Mr. Lochner is certified in Graphic Arts, and holds a Type M Teaching Certificate, a Masters in Vocational Education, and a Bachelor in Fine Arts from M.C.A.D.

His work experience includes Tonka Toy-3M Innerspace Group, Art Director at Porcaro/Blankenship Advertising, a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, and a fine artist/sculptor. He has won many awards including 35 Best of North Advertising Awards, a “Grand Addy” advertising Award, Ward World Wildfowl Carving Championships “2nd in world-best of show”, American Institute of Graphic Arts 25 Awards, Public Relations Society of America 20 Awards, McGraw-Hill Publishing Teacher of the Year, 2012 BP Teacher of Excellence and American Society of Illustrators Award. In his spare time he enjoys horseback riding, hunting, camping, hiking, biking, motorcycles, woodcarving, painting, and family time.
