About Us

King Career Center prepares students for entry level positions in career fields and/or post-secondary education or training. Of the 26 career pathway programs offered at KCC, 19 are taught by industry professionals; the others are taught by teachers with extensive knowledge in industry standards. Learning from those who have “been there” raises both student engagement and achievement. We live by the belief that KCC has two groups of stakeholders: our students and industry.

Career technical and vocational education offers students the opportunity to explore career options and learn the skills needed to obtain an entry-level position in the career of their choice. In addition, students will learn what will be expected of them in the world of work, create a career portfolio and develop the skills necessary to apply and interview for a job.

General Information

KCC is open to all 11th and 12th grade students in the Anchorage School District. Sophomores will be considered for classes where space is available and when they receive a recommendation from their home school counselor. KCC offers periodic evening tours on Tuesdays.

Home high schools provide busing to and from KCC. Driving to KCC is a privilege. Student parking is located on the West side of the building toward Wendler Middle School.

Academic Credit

Students may receive academic credit for most of the courses at KCC (see program of studies).  Many vocational/technical career fields have extensive application to math, science, social science and language arts.  Those requirements are reflected in our curriculae.

Tech Prep

Tech Prep is an articulation agreement between the Anchorage School District and post-secondary education institutions.  Please inquire at the Student Services Department at KCC.

On-The-Job (OJT) Training

Students who participate in OJT will work in a business practicing skills learned in their KCC class.  It is a chance to "try on a career" before they leave high school and pay for training in technical school, college or apprenticeships.  Students in grades 11 or 12 must have completed one or more semesters of a KCC class and must meet the following criteria:  Good attendance, a grade of "A" or "B" and a teacher recommendation for "professionalism".  Please inquire about OJT at the Student Services Department at KCC.
